The perfect gift

The movie Casino, with Robert de Niro and Joe Pesci, set in Las Vegas, is one of my favourite movies; What Happens in Vegas and The Hangover, are also some of my favourite comedy movies; both of them are set in Vegas as well; oh, I shouldn’t forget Domino, the film based on the true story of Domino Harvey, daughter of film actor Laurence Harvey: shoot in Las Vegas at Stratosphere Hotel and Casino. And I really love Katy Perry’s video Waking Up in Vegas.
I always dreamed to have a vacation in the City of Lights; I was always wondering: what’s the feeling when you visit the most famous casinos? How does the place that “incorporates” the most beautiful cities in the world look like? “The Marriage Capital of the World”? Wow that sounds perfect!; A City of Lights in the middle of the desert??? This is unbelievable! A live show with David Copperfield? OMG, I can’t believe it’s true! I used to watch his shows at TV, when I was a child, how can this be real? An expedition in the Grand Canyon, one of the natural wonders of the world? I will never lose the chance to do that! Having fun in the Entertainment Capital of the World? I’m sure anybody wishes it!
Now, the big surprise it’s coming: my dear hubby, the most perfect husband in the world, made my dream came true: a one week vacation to the fabulous city of lights will be his present for my birthday! The beautiful part of this vacation is that we have the flight exactly on my birthday… 🙂 he couldn’t offer me a more perfect gift then this.
So, see you soon in Las Vegas! I promise to not spend too much money in the Casinos! Viva Las Vegas!

Christmas Spirit in the air

For those who don’t know yet, Christmas is my favourite holiday, and I believe is the favourite holiday for most of you, as well.
Every year, I usually start my winter holidays arrangements sometimes in November because I hate the crowds; the Christmas atmosphere around in every store, grocery, mall or at TV, the various customs and traditions, the Christmas carols and just the fact that I’ll spend the holiday with my family and my friends stimulate me more with my planning.
This year I was very lazy in my Christmas preparations, maybe because I worked too hard in the last few months, so every day I came home tired and I preferred to spend the last hours of the day just watching TV, cooking dinners with my husband and so on.
I usually make my Christmas tree and all my decorations in the house and in the balcony on the first week of December. One day, when I came home, it was around December 10th and I looked around on the streets and thru the windows: everybody had already beautiful Christmas trees, lights and decorations around the buildings, and the ambiance was so amazing! I was feeling like a child who didn’t make his homework, and the Christmas fairy admonished him:” Shame on you! How come you forgot about your favourite holiday?” 🙂
So I went home and I started to plan everything for these holidays; in the same time, I planned the Christmas party at my work, and everybody was so happy with my choices (I’ll write about this into another post). I’m still behind a little bit with everything I was planning to do (well, I have an excuse, I was sick during the weekend), but what’s more important it’s already done: the Christmas tree (this year I choose as a motif for the decorations gold and green, but I will add a little bit of traditional red), the cabbage rolls (our traditional Romanian dish), shopping of some beautiful presents and some other details.
I’m not sure if I’ll still post something until Christmas (I suppose it’s a busy week for all of us), but I’m sure that it’s not too early to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and may this holiday be blessed with peace and great joy!

To the enthusiastic film lovers

Hello movie lovers! Here is another movie lover talking to you. I’m glad to remind you that for about 2 weeks, we have the chance to enjoy so many genres of films, from all over the world; because the Vancouver International Film Festival starts today! Like in the past few years, Romania participates too, with a few movies. We’ll try to watch as many Romanian movies as we can, but not only.

Attracting a very large audience every year, VIFF is among the five largest film festivals in North America. There are screened films from 80 countries on 10 screens (btw, who’s the one who can watch all of them? :D)

For those interested in the online film guide and the schedule, here is the website:

Beautiful British Columbia

Once you enter in the spectacular landscapes along the Sea to Sky Highway you can feel the massive energy of the land.  The natural wonders that start from the ocean through the Coast Mountains, including the past volcanoes, quiet glaciers and lakes, vivid valleys and coastal rainforests  reminded me this weekend how blessed we are to live in such a beautiful province. For the lover of wilderness, this is one of the best places to live: a unique land, where the ocean meets the majesty of the mountains.

The area around Whistler is already known as one of the most spectacular sceneries in the world:

Nairn Falls is home to some very special wildlife.  We walked on a trail of 1,5 km to see this refreshing beauty, the dramatic result of the erosive power of water:

The next stop was in Pemberton, where we had our lunch. Here it starts the adventure of the wilderness.

The Lower Joffre Lake is a magnificent area where everything is so quiet; it’s another world, a natural land of icefields, where you just admire the turquoise-blue of the water and the glacier-laden peaks:

The spectacular begins; you are so close by the mountains… closer then you can ever imagine, and nobody’s around; you just go further, but you don’t know where you go; it’s like you are at the border of the world:

We stayed overnight in Lillooet, one of the oldest communities in British Columbia. It looks like a real wild west village, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Coast Mountain Range and Fraser Canyon.

In the next day, we had our breakfast to the Historic Hat Creek Ranch, a place that recalls the 1860s Gold Rush and Native History:

Lytton is another unique place situated where the Thompson River meets the Fraser River; and yes, you can clearly see how the 2 colors came together:

We had a few more stops on the way to Vancouver. We continued to explore the Fraser Canyon, another incredible part of the Beautiful British Columbia.

The return to innocence

I haven’t been to a circus show since I was a kid. I think I was just about 5 years old when a circus team came in our city and my father brought me to the show. I don’t remember the other kids and friends I went with, I don’t remember the other shows I watched, but I remember exactly this show because I was very impressed by the pairs of elephants who were dancing.

Today, when it comes about an adrenaline rush of acrobatics in a crazy, unconventional land of fairy-tales I wouldn’t miss the chance to watch live such of a wonderful show; especially if this is performed by one of the most famous circuses in the world! You already guessed: I went to Cirque du Soleil!

Actually, the show was not a part of our cruise to Mexico; Cirque du Soleil is in Vancouver now, so we took advantage to watch their unique show, just a few days ago. Despite of the cold and rainy weather of that day (the first rainy day since their first performance in Vancouver during this summer), we enjoyed every single moment acted in the The Grand Chapiteau (where it was very warm and nice 🙂 ).

KOOZA is a show that tells a melancholic and magical story of an Innocent character, a loner who’s trying to search his place in the world. This character could be, sometimes, any of us; and we are always impressed by ambitious people who are around us and who always “make it happen”. In the same way, this Innocent and us, the spectators, were captivated by the human performance in all its splendour presented in an electrifying and exotic visual world full of surprises, thrills, chills, and total involvement.

Unfortunately, we were not allowed to have a camera during the show, so I posted the  pictures from Cirque du Soleil website.

Welcome onboard!

We woke up early in the morning to make sure we have enough time to get to the airport for the check in. We gave  instructions to the taxi driver to drop us to the international departing flights (more exactly, the flights for USA). “Where do you go?” he asked us. “We take the flight to LA”, we answered proudly. “We go in a cruise to Mexico”, we said again, more proud by ourselves then before”.

“This is great!” he said “I hope you’ll have a great time. I’m actually from LA”.

“Really? We’ll stay in LA for a few days, after we’ll be back from the cruise. What do you suggest us to visit there, in just a few days?”

“I would recommend you the Universal Studios”, he said.

Of course, we were thinking about the same think, but we still didn’t visit the Universal Studios yet; we’ll go into another trip for that.

The flight was less than 3 hours; it was a beautiful sunny morning; there were some turbulences, not very strong, but enough to make me feel a little bit uncomfortable (usually I’m a little bit nervous while flying 😀 ); anyway, the comedy that I watched, The Date Night with Steve Carell and Tina Fey made me forget that I was in the plane. I would recommend you all to watch this movie, it’s really funny.

About the LAX Airport what can I say? It’s HUGE! It’s much bigger than Vancouver Airport… but also very noisy, with a lot of traffic.

To get to the port of San Pedro from the airport it was much easier then we expected. Why was it that easy? Because once again, Royal Caribbean proved to be a great planner, thinking at every single detail to satisfy its customers. Their buses were waiting for us in the airport, so they drop us directly on board. We didn’t even carry our luggages. They took them by themselves with a special bus; in the evening, all the luggages were already onboard, in front of each room.

It took less than 45 minutes to the port of San Pedro. We were impressed on the way by the very tall palm trees, but nothing else since we travelled just on the highway. And finally, here she is! The beautiful Mariner of the Seas, a shiny immensity, a luxurious floating resort was waiting to lead us into the paradise. “Welcome onboard!” the smiling crew members greeted us. These friendly smiles make you feel so comfortable! It’s another proof that the guests are so important for them.

…Days and days of burning sun, tranquility and relax on famous and sandy beaches, spectacular nature in the tropical jungle, new and vibrant cultures, colourful sunrises and sunsets on the Pacific ocean, plenty of fancy food, luxuriance and elegance, unforgettable nights on board completed with shows, music, fun and dance, grandiose palm trees, entertaining in the spotlights with some of the world-famous celebrities and…. “C’mon girl, wake up! You came already back to reality one week ago and you’re still dreaming to one of the most beautiful vacations you ever had??? Don’t be rude! Your blog readers are waiting for your fascinating stories since you shown up your enthusiasm of flying to LA. And now, you keep all these stories just for yourself? This is not nice at all! Back to reality, girl; nobody cooks for you every 15 minutes anymore, nobody works for you anymore, nobody organizes your time anymore, nobody cleans your room and changes your towels at least 2wice a day anymore, nobody comes to you every 10 minutes on the deck when you lie down in the burning sun, to ask you what would you like to drink and… Are you sure you still want to remember? :D”

OK, as my thoughts already mentioned, I’m back from my vacation, but I’m still “recovering” 🙂 If you read the first lines of my post, you have to know the words are not enough to describe the paradise I’ve seen; because even you believe or not, yes, I’ve seen the paradise and more than that, I lived there for a few days.

For 10 days, we explored and discovered a beautiful land that offers a vibrant culture, serenity and adventure. I have so many fascinating stories to tell, and I’m planning to make kind of a trip journal for you, starting from the first day on board, continuing with the comfort offered by Mariner of the Seas, amazing experiences and pictures we took on the tequila’s land, until the days spent in the middle of Hollywood’s glamorous movie industry where, maybe you won’t believe me, but we had the luckiness to see famous celebrities!

One of the most popular couples in the world stopped and got out of the car just in front of us. Do you guess who they are? The beautiful Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt! For real!!! I’ll be back with more details about this lucky event and about all the other beautiful experiences in my travel journal. This time, we will explore the Mexican Riviera together.

PS: I took the picture in Los Cabos. Isn’t it amazing?

De Mexico, con amor…

Hola amigos! I have the great opportunity now to improve my Spanish! As I already mentioned into a recent post, I’m getting ready for a great vacation to Mexico! Actually, I’m already ready! Tomorrow morning we’ll get the flight to LA, where the cruise Mariner Of The Seas is waiting for us. We will spend 10 beautiful days on the exotic and romantic Mexican Riviera; the ports of call will be Cabos san Lucas, Mazatlan and ah… the amazing city of Puerto Vallarta, where water lovers can try everything from snorkelling, scuba diving or swimming with the dolphins. I’m not a big fan of water activities, but why shouldn’t I take advantage of all these unique experiences? Especially cos I love dolphins!

I promise to be back with a lot of beautiful memories and unique experiences and to share them with you.

Hasta pronto, amigos!
