The Olympic flame will burn again, so we can take advantage by new beautiful moments and unique events in our city. Tomorrow, March 12, The Paralympic Cauldron will be lit in Vancouver. Let’s celebrate the world’s best Paralympians at Paralympics Winter Games. It’s important for the entire world to learn what the Paralympic Torch represents, to create opportunities and awareness for people with disabilities, by understanding their ambitions and their strong desire to success. Go World Go!
After the Olympic Closing Ceremony I wanted to make a review of some of the most sensational moments I felt during these once in a life-time events. I think it’s a good time now for all of us to remember what we did, felt and learnt during Olympics; and I can use just some simple words: ambition, exhilaration, pride, fun and friendship.
Let’s remember some of the most touching moments that made us feel all these sensations:
1. The Olympic Torch Relay: during its journey, The Olympic Flame travelled by land, air and water. This huge symbol visited more than 1,000 communities in our massive country, showing unforgettable Canadian stories. I’ve seen people really happy and proud to carry the torch; it was one of the moments that make you feel proud to be a part of your community.
2. The Opening Ceremony: all I can say is: “wooow!!!!!”; an historic event that presented Canada with a once-in-a-generation opportunity to tell a story that inspires a world audience of three billion. Each nation cheered its country representatives and athletes when they carried the flags. We also cheered the Romanian Olympians, whishing them a huge Good Luck and feeling honoured for them. But I have no words to describe the atmosphere around us when the Canadian athletes entered on the stadium. We were screaming and screaming, and we couldn’t stop anymore! It was one of those exciting moments that give you hope and confidence and one of those moments when you see so many nations leaving all together and feeling really proud to be Canadians. “We knew that Canadians were passionate about this country, but the level of energy and excitement and the positive response our team received from symposia participants were truly inspiring,” said David Atkins, Vancouver 2010 Executive Producer, and Ceremonies. All together we make one world.
3. The First Gold Medal for Canada: Thank you so much, Alex Bilodeau! You became a hero for us! We had our first Olympic Gold right here, in our place!
4. The meeting with the Romanian Olympic Team: we had such a great time when we met the Romanian Athletes. We watched them in the competitions, and we are proud for them. We heard stories from the athletes, we talked with them, we changed facebook addresses, we took pictures together, and we had fun. It was a touching moment for us and for those ambitious athletes as well. Good Luck friends! You are welcome to visit us anytime!
5. Joannie Rochette’s impressive performance: our Canadian figure skater became an inspiration for all of us, as “the woman who melted hearts around the world by delivering the medal-winning performance in Vancouver”. Just two days before the beginning of her competition, Joannie’s mother died of a heart attack at Vancouver General Hospital after arriving to watch her compete. Regardless her sorrow, Joannie chose to continue competing in her mother’s honor. She held on to her third place position after the long program and won the bronze medal. Congratulations, Joannie Rochette! You are another hero for us!
6. Hokey is Canada’s Game!
Oh yeah! It was the best game ever! The last competition from the Olympics, the hockey game between Canada and USA for the gold medal has become the most-watched sports program in Canadian history. With just a few hours before the Closing Ceremony, our hokey team has proved that Hokey is Canada’s Game! I didn’t know too much about this sport before the Olympics, but now I learned that it creates the most exciting mood a sport can creates! It has the same popularity like soccer in Europe, I can say. And, omg… I wonder how many people had hart-attacks during this tough game….
) The last Olympic game between the strongest 2 teams, and the last Gold for Canada. GOLD CANADA GOLD!
7. Closing Ceremony – exciting, happy and funny moments; the ceremony celebrated three of Canada’s greatest traits: talent, innovation and humor with homegrown comedic talents and musical superstars. I was so excited about the performance of one of my favorite bands, Nickelback. The Closing Ceremony was the moment when we realized that all the amazing Olympics moments made us stronger and more in love with our country.
Let’s start to spread again all these feelings around the word! Let’s the Paralympics games begin!
